Gloucester Ecclesiastical

Key details

Project Overview

Ecclesiastical Insurance, one of Gloucestershire’s biggest employers, announced plans to move to a new purpose-built headquarters at Gloucester Business Park.

Arlington, the owners of Gloucester Business Park engaged with Baynham Meikle to provide the Civil and Structural engineering services for the project throughout both the design and construction phases.

The head office will provide Ecclesiastical with a modern and flexible working environment with sufficient parking for both employees and visitors. The new building will provide 65,000 sq ft of office space over 3 floors.

Form of construction – Braced steel frame with insitu concrete composite floor decks. Floor beams were cellular so the base-build services could be threaded through the cells, the fit- out stage M&E then had the flexibility to either utilize available beam cells or to route along a clear services void provided between the underside of the beam and top of the suspended ceiling. The ground conditions dictated that pilecaps and driven piles had to be incorporated to support the main structural columns. A ground bearing floor slab could be used.

The project was a success, all members of the design team worked together well and at the end of the project the end user was delighted with their finished building.
