We were appointed civil and structural engineers on the Tech Foundry West for Harwell. Tech Foundry West is part of Harwell’s strategic initiative to expand lab capacity. The sophisticated facility will offer 70,000 sqft of leasable laboratory, advanced manufacturing, and office space. It will serve the growing community of leading scientists, engineers, and innovators within the Oxford-Cambridge Arc. In alignment with Harwell’s sustainability objectives, the project is targeting BREEAM certification and will leverage a fabric-first approach to optimise performance.
Construction commenced with a six-week enabling works phase, including extensive cut-and-fill operations, ground stabilisation and installation of pad foundations to prepare the site for long-term resilience and adaptability. Delivery of a high-performance building envelope designed to support future specialist uses, including clean rooms, flue systems, mezzanine floors and heavy-load equipment installations. Implementation of external infrastructure including visitor parking, EV charging provision, hard and soft landscaping and site enhancements aligned with Harwell’s wider ESG and campus sustainability objectives.
