Lookers had a requirement to build an AUDI facility at Farnborough Business Park. This consisted of a showroom, servicing centre and valet building, with a large area of secure parking. XLB, who have an arrangement to develop areas the park on behalf of the Business Park, engaged with Baynham Meikle to provide the Civil and Structural engineering services for the project throughout both the design and construction phases. Our works were confined to the delivery of the building shell, and the fit out was carried out by the AUDI team.

Form of construction – Braced steel frame with in-situ concrete composite floor decks. Floor beams were designed economically within a restricted depth to provide a clear services void between the underside of the beam and top of the suspended ceiling. The workshop consisted of a braced frame with long span trusses supporting a concrete roof for further car parking storage. The ground conditions dictated that the ground be improved so that standard pad bases could be provided, and a ground bearing floor slab could be used. The Valet building was a simple small portal framed structure.
