Spiceball Leisure Centre

Key details

Project Overview

The Spiceball leisure centre is located on a busy junction running from the M40 motorway into Banbury. It is considered as a gateway development leading into the city.

The awkward shaped site presented many challenges to the design team and necessitated considerable manipulation of the internal elements to ensure that they could be accommodated within the boundary.

The leisure centre includes a 25 metre competition swimming pool, 20m learner pool, together with a gym and fitness suite, exercise studio, squash courts, health spa facilities, cafe and a major 8 court sports hall.

The roof construction included curved glulam beams spanning over the main swimming pool and curved cellular beams bridging the sports hall. The foundations comprised of concrete pads supporting the columns with the ground below vibroed. The ground floor slab was also vibroed to compact the loose ground below.
